Physicians have now received a green light to seek reimbursement for certifying a patient for home health care and for recertifying the patient. HCFA's 2001 physician fee schedule added Code G0180 to be used for certifying Medicare patients for home health care who have not received home health care for at least 60 days. Code G0179 is to be used for recertifying the patient after the patient has received home health care for at least 60 days.

In Florida, the reimbursement rates are $70.72 for G0180 and $59.25 for G0179. Check with your local carrier for geographical adjustments.

This reimbursement can be a significant "boost" for your BOTTOM LINE with an estimated 5.8 million certs and recerts expected in this fiscal year.
